Sandra M. (Sandi) Lewellen, 72, of DeWitt, died Saturday, Dec 10, 2011, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City.

Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at Bittiker Funeral Home, 1201 North 65 Highway in Carrollton, with Reverend Lanny Lybarger and Reverend Gail Brown officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in DeWitt. The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2011, at Bittiker Funeral Home. The family suggests contributions be made to Carroll County Home Health Agency or DeWitt Community Center in memory of Sandi. Born July 5, 1939, in Sidney, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Vaughn Floyd and Elizabeth Hannah (Bennett) Herrick. On Oct. 24, 1980, she married W.R. Lewellen Jr., who survives of the home. She graduated from Sidney Central High School in Sidney, N.Y. She was a graduate of Marshall VO-Tech School where she received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree. She worked as an LPN at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall, Saline County Rest Home and the Marshall State School. She was a member of Brunswick Christian Church where she also played the piano and organ, a life member of AMVET Auxiliary and was instrumental in the research, planning and publication of the DeWitt History Book. Sandi was a Charter Board of Directors member of Carroll County Ambulance District where she served as chairman, vice-chairman and was the first board secretary. She was also a Brunswick Library Board member.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, John Daniel Kopp Jr. of Glendale, Calif., Dennis Kopp of Odessa and Greg Kopp of Smithville; one daughter, Carolin Failer of Marshall; one stepson, Rodney Lewellen of DeWitt; one sister, Linda Van Der Sloot of Rosalia, Wash.; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Doris Scott; one son, Carl, in infancy; one sister, Barbara Comparan; and one brother, Ralph Herrick.
