Sandra M. (Sandi) Lewellen, 72, of DeWitt, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at North Kansas City Hospital, North Kansas City. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the Bittiker Funeral Home, 1201 North 65 Highway, Carrollton, with the Reverend Lanny Lybarger and Reverend Gail Brown officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, DeWitt. The family suggests contributions be made to Carroll County Home Health Agency or DeWitt Community Center in memory of Sandi and they may be left at or mailed to Bittiker Funeral Home, 1201 North 65 Highway, Carrollton, MO 64633.

Born July 5, 1939 to Vaughn Floyd and Elizabeth Hannah (Bennett) Herrick in Sidney, N.Y., she married W.R. Lewellen Jr. on Oct. 24, 1980. He survives of the home.

She graduated from Sidney Central High School in Sidney. She was a graduate of Marshall VO-Tech School, where she received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree. She worked as a LPN at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall, Saline County Rest Home and the Marshall State School. She was a member of the Brunswick Christian Church, where she also played the piano and organ, a Life Member of AMVET Auxiliary, and was instrumental in the research, planning and publication of the DeWitt History Book. She was a Charter Board of Directors member of Carroll County Ambulance District, where she served as Chairman, Vice-Chairman, and was the first Board Secretary. She was also a Brunswick Library Board member.

Survivors include three sons, John Daniel Kopp Jr. of Glendale, Cailf., Dennis Kopp of Odessa, Greg Kopp of Smithville; one daughter, Carolin Failer of Marshall; one step-son, Rodney Lewellen of DeWitt; one sister, Linda Van Der Sloot, Rosalia, Wash.; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death were her parents, and step-mother, Doris Scott; one son, Carl, in infancy; one sister, Barbara Comparan; and one brother, Ralph Herrick.
