HANNIBAL -- The Missouri Valley College men's basketball team completed a home-and-home season sweep of a non-conference foe Monday with a 46-41 decision at Hannibal-LaGrange.
Scoring didn't come easily for either team, with no points recorded through the first three minutes. The Vikings eventually built a 12-point first-half lead, but couldn't shake the home team -- which used a 10-5 surge during the final five minutes of the period to trail by seven points at the break.
The Trojans wouldn't go away during the second half, twice closing the margin to two points, but Valley sank five of six free throws during the final minute to hold on for the win.
Junior Jurgen Lico had a game-high 13 points for Hannibal-LaGrange (6-7).
Playing his first game for the Vikings, freshman Jordan Stapp came off the bench to tally eight points to pace the team. Senior Bryan Corley had six points and nine rebounds, helping Valley to a 33-25 advantage on the boards.
The Vikings (4-7) are off until a New Year's Eve contest at Bethel (Kan.).
