Florence Burfeind, 87, of Logansport, Ind., passed away at 4:48 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, in Logansport Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. Surrounded by her family, she was granted a holy death and was received into the arms of Jesus.

Born in Basco, Wis., on March 10, 1924, she was the daughter of Wayne and Julia Gafke Palmer.

On Oct. 19, 1947, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, in Janesville, Wis., Florence was married to Paul Louis Burfeind, who preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 2001.

A graduate of Belleville (Wisc.) High School, Florence had been employed as a telephone operator for Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company and was a life-long member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Florence was also a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Logansport.

Surviving are her children, Judith M. Knohl of Logansport, Ind., John Burfeind of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Jeannine and Jeff Lemley, of Hales Corners, Wisc.; siblings, Elmer and Minnie Palmer, of Verona, Wisc., Dorothy Kuenzi of New Glarus, Wisc., and Lester and Barbara Palmer, of Paoli, Wisc.

Also surviving are grandsons, Alex Lemley, Paul Lemley and Joe Lemley of Hales Corners, Wisc.; dear friends, Dean Kresl of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Dale and Diane DeWitt of Logansport, Ind.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Florence was also preceded in death by siblings, Earl Palmer, William Palmer, Julius Palmer, Floyd Palmer, Stanley Palmer and Esther Newbry; and recently by a son-in-law, Kenneth Knohl.

Services will be at 3p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, at St. James Lutheran Church in Logansport, with Pastor K. C. Dehning officiating.

Visitation will precede the service from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m at the church.

Florence will be laid to rest on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at 2 p.m. Saturday in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Blackburn. Pastor William Heine will officiate.
