The last chance to see Marshall's Alex McKinney fight locally may be Friday during the Xtreme X-mas Wars mixed martial arts show at Slater.

The former all-state wrestler for the Owls and Missouri Valley College all-American has announced that he will turn professional after this bout, according to event promoter Oscar Glover. McKinney is 12-0 as an amateur and ranked No. 1 in Missouri at 170 pounds, according to the International Sports Combat Federation.

The main event for the program, which starts at 8 p.m. in the Volkfest Building at 620 Leroy Street -- next to Lion's Field -- will pit McKinney against three-year veteran Jett Jones of Kansas City, Kan. Jones is 12-5 and ranked second at 185 pounds by

The winner will be awarded the Central Regional 185-pound state title belt, which would soon be relinquished since Jones also plans on turning pro, Glover said.

The co-main event on the 10-bout card will feature Cody Jenkins of Slater against DeAndre Fane of Marshall, both coming in with 2-0 records. Other local fighters in action will be Sam Harris, LaMichael Hopkins and Darrell Gerlt of Marshall and Quincy Washington of Malta Bend.

The lone woman's fight will have former Valley grappler Brittney Heatherly taking on Marshall's Jackie Sinkler.

As part of the program, coach Jeremy Gochenour will have his Team Owls youth wrestling club stage demonstrations between fights and performances from a live local band.

The doors open at 6 p.m. with general admission tickets for $20 and special VIP seating for $35. An official after-party will be held at the Veteran's Club Legion Hall at 720 West Heiler in Slater.
