The sign-up for 2010 losses began Nov. 14, 2011, and will end June 1, 2012.

The Supplemental Revenue Assistance Program (SURE) provides benefits for farm revenue losses due to natural disasters that occurred in the crop year 2010.

SURE is available to eligible producers on:

--Farms in counties with Secretarial disaster declarations, including contiguous counties, that have incurred crop production or quality losses, or both, and includes all crops grown by a producer nationwide, except grazed crops.

--Any farm in which, for the crop year, the actual production on the farm because of disaster-related conditions is 50 percent or less than normal production of the farm.

NAP closing dates

The NAP application sales closing date for apples, apricots, blueberries, grapes, nectarines, peaches, pears, plums and prunes is November 20, 2011.

The NAP application sales closing date for honey is December 1, 2011.

The NAP application sales closing date for potatoes is December 31, 2011.

The NAP application closing date for 2012 grazing and forage/hay on native and improved grass is March 15, 2012.

COC ballots

County Committee election ballots must be completed and returned to the FSA office by the close of business on Monday, December 5, 2011. If mailed, the ballots must be postmarked by midnight December 5, 2011.

Saline County voters in LAA 1 (Arrow Rock, Cambridge, Clay, and South Fork Townships) should have received their ballots earlier this month.

When completing the ballot, make sure you follow the directions carefully. Otherwise the ballot will not be counted.

--Vote for only one candidate

--Sign the address label located on the envelope flap.

Eligible voters must be of legal voting age and have an interest in a farm as any of the following:

--An individual

--The authorized representative of an entity

--Both spouses when property is owned jointly

--Spouses in community property states

If not of legal voting age, that producer must supervise or conduct the farming operations of an entire farm.

The voter must also participate or cooperate in any FSA program that is provided by law.

If your operation is located in LAA 1 and you did not receive a ballot, contact the FSA office.

No person shall be denied the right to vote because of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation or marital or family status.
