Senior Chelsea Quiring recorded her first double-double of the season Friday with 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Missouri Valley College women's basketball team to a 72-58 non-conference home win over Missouri Baptist.
A pair of buckets by junior Sami Jackson helped get the Lady Vikings off to an 11-3 start, and they never trailed again. However, the Lady Spartans began a 13-5 run with senior Kayla Tisza's three-pointer to cut their deficit to one points on Tisza's conventional three-point play with 7:14 left in the first half.
Valley went into the break with 35-31 lead, but built on that early in the second half -- capping a 7-1 surge with a bomb from junior Clare Youngclaus for an 11-point cushion. Missouri Baptist would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way, and the Lady Vikings rallied with nine straight points when the game got that close -- blanking the visitors for nearly three minutes down the stretch.
Tisza and junior Lauren Taylor each had 10 points for the Lady Spartans (0-2).
Jackson finished with 18 points, four assists and four steals and junior Ashley Maxwell added 10 points and seven assists for Valley (2-3) -- which dominated the boards by a 46-26 margin.
The Lady Vikings will look for their third straight win Tuesday when they visit Park.
