Junior Morgan Smith's 28 points and 11 rebounds led the College of the Ozarks a 75-61 non-conference victory on the road to ruin the season opener for the Missouri Valley College women's basketball team.
The Lady Bobcats, ranked sixth in the NAIA Division II pre-season poll, led by 11 points three times during the first half before a pair of buckets by junior Cara Clark closed the margin to seven points at the break.
Ozarks (1-0) was able to hold off the Lady Vikings during the second half by making 20 of 22 free-throw attempts.
Clark led Valley with 13 points off the bench and senior Hannah Young added 12 points, eight rebounds and six steals. The Lady Vikings (0-1) will play two games this weekend in the Central Methodist Classic.
