Raymond C. (Dick) Meyer, 89, of Sweet Springs, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at Sweet Springs Villa.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Sweet Springs with Rev. Victor Smith officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Fairview Cemetery. Born June 24, 1922, near Emma, he was the son of the late Louis Meyer and Elizabeth Bardenhagen Meyer. On April 19, 1947, he married Nellie Elsea, who preceded him in death on Oct. 18, 2011. He had lived in the Sweet Springs area most of his life where he farmed until his induction into the U.S. Army in 1944. During his enlistment, he served in the Pacific Theater of Operation and earned numerous medals including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was employed by Skelly Oil Company and worked for them until his retirement in 1982. He was employed part-time at M.F.A. Oil Company,and drove a school bus for several years. He joined the Sweet Springs Presbyterian Church in 1963 and held offices as deacon, elder, Sunday school secretary, treasurer and superintendant.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters.
