Thieves have burglarized several rural homes north of I-70 between routes EE and ZZ.
Sheriff Wally George believes the thieves knock on the doors of the homes they plan to rob.
"If someone answers, they tell the homeowner they have made a mistake and are looking for someone else and simply leave," George wrote in a news release.
Several reports indicate the thieves have entered residences by prying doors open with a screwdriver-like tool. The thieves have stolen a variety of jewelry in addition to routers, a camera, pocket knives, collectors' coins and a desktop computer.
"I need people to call if they see any vehicle that doesn't belong," George said. "I think rural folks know who belongs in that area."
The sheriff urged anyone with information to come forward. All informants will be kept anonymous. He asked residents to record and report license plate numbers of any suspicious vehicles.
"I want to ask all of my rural Saline County folks to be on extra alert around your home," George wrote. "And keep an eye out for any strangers in your area."
If you have any information regarding the burglaries, call the Saline County Sherrif's Department at 660-886-5511.
