William James "Bill" Thornton, 95, of Sibley, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at Speaks Buckner Chapel. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at the chapel. Online condolences may be expressed at www.speakschapel.com.
Born Sept. 24, 1915, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Harry and Lavina (Ainsworth) Thornton. He was married to Lottie Thornton, who preceded him in death in 2002. He had worked as a truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Local #41 in Kansas City for a number of years before his retirement from Middlewest Freightways in 1975. He was a long time member of the Sibley Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing, tinkering with lawnmowers, music and gardening.
He is survived by one daughter, Judy Rash of Sibley; five grandchildren, David Clause, William Clause, Christine Bond, Dennis Clause and Timothy Rash; 16 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Evelyn Clause in 2010.
