Graveside services with military honors will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at Slater City Cemetery, with Rev. Bruce Hess officiating. Visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the Community Hospice Foundation.
Born July 2, 1922, in Slater, he was the son of the late Ralph and Mary Smith Taylor. On Feb. 10, 1946, at First Baptist Church in Slater, he married Dorothy Lee Jaques, who preceded him in death on April 24, 2010. He was a member of Arlington Christian Church in Jacksonville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. He was a member of the LaGrange Masonic Lodge #770 A.F. & A.M. in LaGrange, Ill. He was a 1940 graduate of Slater High School, and graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1948 with a degree in business. He worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Chicago and Atlanta, rising to the position of Vice President before his retirement in 1987. He had resided in Jacksonville since 2003.
He is survived by a son, Robert Taylor of Chicago, Ill.; two daughters, Lane Campbell of Atlanta and Carole Mays of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Taylor; and a sister, Peggy Jenkins.
