Kitty loved and cared for Marshall, Missouri.

Kathleen 'Kitty' Wilson Nelson, 79 of Marshall, died at her home, Monday Aug. 8, 2011.

Born Aug. 2, 1932, in Aurora, Neb., she was the daughter of John C. and Bertie D. Wilson, and sister to Claudia and Jack Wilson, of Wolbach, Neb..

On May 29, 1954, in Wolbach, Neb., she married Tim B. Nelson, who died in Marshall on Feb. 26, 1995.

She has lived in Marshall since 1972 and was a noted Preservationist in the Marshall Community and Saline County. She was a piano and vocal instructor and instructed hundreds of students during her years in Marshall. She founded in 1994, with her husband, 'Kitty's Corner Guest Houses', preserving several homes along East North Street for short term and long term visitors. She and her husband started raising English Cocker Spaniels, shortly after moving to Marshall. They both were big fans of 'Jim The Wonder Dog'. Lionel in 2010, and Danny in 2011, won the Jim The Wonder Dog look-a-like contest.

She graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb., and received a Master's Degree in Music from the University of Missouri in Columbia.

She was an active member at First Presbyterian 'Rock' Church, and with many Civic Groups including the Marshall Chamber of Commerce, the Sedalia Chorale and The Old Trails Regional Tourism Partnership. She helped establish a musical ensemble known as 'Kitty and Friends'.

Before moving to Marshall with her husband and their two children, she lived in Chicago, Ill.; Auburn, Neb.; Pittsburgh, Pa.; and Crail, Fife Scotland.

She is survived by her two children, son Chris Wilson Nelson, who lives in Marshall, and daughter Claudia Nelson Peterson of San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren, Hazel and Mary Nelson of Greensboro, N.C., and Shane Peterson of San Jose, Calif.; her dogs Lionel, Dollie and Danny, and her cat Millie.

A musical concert by 'Kitty and Friends' is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at First Baptist Church. A story featuring the 'Kitty and Friends' concert is soon to follow.
