Missouri Valley College defensive end Richard Wick ended the 2010 season as an AFCA All-American, and he's forecast to play at least as well during the upcoming season.

Wick was among three Vikings selected for the pre-season all-America team submitted by the Victory Sports Network, which focuses on NAIA football. Joining Wick on the squad were senior linebacker Adam Maher and senior kicker Fabian Miramontes.

Wick, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound senior from Brawley, Calif., was rated by the VSN as the nation's No. 1 defensive lineman and made the "Super Six" list of overall performers. Also Valley's lone representative on The Sporting News' pre-season NAIA all-America squad, Wick was second in the national rankings last year in sacks per game (1.1) and third in total sacks (10.5). He had 30 total tackles, 14 behind the line of scrimmage.

A 5-11, 223-pounder from Camdenton, Maher is rated the fifth-best linebacker by VSN after posting 46 tackles -- second on the Vikings -- 6.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. He also had one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Miramontes, from Merced, Calif., made all 40 of his extra-point attempts and was 14 of 18 on field-goal attempts, his longest being from 49 yards. He ranked second in field goals per game (1.4) and kicker scoring (8.2 points per game).

Valley (8-2) was picked by coaches to finish second in the Heart of America Conference and begins the season ranked 11th in the NAIA. The Vikings open their season at home on Sept. 3 against No. 12 MacPherson (Kan.) -- the defending Kansas Collegiate Athletic Association champion.
