Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with Rev. David Slusher officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to Gill Memorial Baptist Church in Marshall. Born March 3, 1923, in Napton, he was the son of the late Guy P. Nichols and Bessie Powers Nichols. On March 3, 1945, he married Evelyn Dean Moore who survives of the home. He served as a medic in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He worked at International Shoe Company and also in construction.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Percy Nichols of Independence and James Nichols of rural Marshall; five sisters, Marie Long, Maxine Riley and Barbara Claggett, all of Marshall, Thelma Gann of Higginsville and Ruth Slee of Lexington; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Guy Nichols Jr.; and two sisters, Elizabeth Vesser and Martha Sue Frakes.
