Wilma "Jerri" Smith, 75, of rural Curryville, formerly of Marshall, died Friday, July 29, 2011, at Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia, with Rev. Mike Lewton officiating, and music provided by Fay Miller. Interment was in Vandalia Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dan Kemp, Steve Kemp, Elmer Lee Kemp, Arthur Kemp, Dennis Hursman, Doug Hursman, Gary Eskew, Larry Eskew and Eric Eskew. Honorary pallbearers were Travis Bryant, LaDon Bryant, Tori Allen, Brian Jarvis, Mari Parrish and Tanner Lark. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2011, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2001 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis MO., 63131-3597.
Born Aug. 9, 1935, in rural Vandalia, she was the daughter of John Clay and Helen Celeste (Arthur) Eskew. On Dec. 26, 1970, in Pery, she married Joseph Harvey Smith, who preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 2009. She grew up in the Vandalia area and was a member of its First Baptist Church. She worked at International Shoe Factory in Vandalia for many years, Bobby Brooks, Bridal Originals and other garment factories in the area. She moved to Marshall in December 1972 and worked at Marshall Habilitation Center until her retirement in 1997. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Girl Scout leader and cookie chairwoman for 20 years. She was a Missouri Valley College Parent and in the PTO for 16 years. She enjoyed crafts, ceramics, sewing, cooking and country music.
She is survived by three daughters, Toni A. Bryant and her husband, Henry, of rural Currville, Terri S. Eoff of Vandalia, and Laura C. (Joely) Lark and her husband, Eric, of Marshall; one brother, Russell E. Eskew and his wife, Mary Helen, of Vandalia; two sisters, Edith Kemp and her husband, Eugene, of Davenport, Iowa, and Phyllis Hursman and her husband Archie, of Vandalia; one half-sister, Shirley Watson of Vandalia; six grandchildren, Travis Bryant and his wife, Wendy, LaDon Bryant, Tori and Stan Allen, Brian Jarvis, Mari Parrish and Tanner Lark.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Wayne Eskew.
