Opal Mae Thompson, 87, of Marshall, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011, at South New Home Missionary Baptist Church in Cross Timbers. The grandchildren will be pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery in Cross Timbers. Hathaway-Peterman Funeral Home in Wheatland is in charge of the arrangements.
Born Jan. 12, 1927, in San Bernardino, Calif., she was the daughter of the late Opal Mae Rorrer. She married Jack Dempsey who preceded her in death May 5, 1975. She later married Bill Thompson who preceded her in death in April 1987. She was a homemaker and a member of South New Home Missionary Baptist Church in Cross Timbers.
She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Snead of Sedalia and Carol Tuckwiller of Marshall; one son, JC Dempsey of Sweet Springs; three brothers, Alve DeFreece and Carl DeFreece of Independence, and JW DeFreece of Cross Timbers; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands and mother, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ray DeFreece.
