Lanny Parks, 76, of Sweet Springs, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, at Campbell-Lewis chapel in Sweet Springs with Rev. David Goode officiating. Burial will be at Malta Bend Cemetery in Malta Bend. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran School for the benefit of the Holy Cross students. Born Nov. 30, 1934, in Lexington, Neb., he was the son of the late James Edward Parks and Maude Greene Parks. He was a 1953 graduate of Malta Bend High School and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran serving from 1954 to 1957. On May 30, 1957, he married Barbara Webster who survives of the home. He lived in the Sweet Springs area since 1969 where he was a member of the Sweet Springs Baptist Church and spent many years as an auto mechanic for most of the local dealerships.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: Debbie Kirchhoff of Concordia, Jay Parks of Emma, Dennis Parks of Springfield and Jennifer March of Sweet Springs; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Elaine Kinney of Independence, Beulah Dryer of Lee's Summit, Kathy McMullin of Independence; two brothers, Dale Parks and Glenn Parks, both of Independence; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Wright; five brothers: Les, Eulin, Marshall, John and Darrel Parks.
