Joy Louise Bergman Moad-Steiner passed out of this life and into her heavenly home on Sunday, July 17, at the age of 76 in Mesa, Ariz. Joy was born in De Soto, at the family farm to parents August Julius and Susanne Louise Bergman. Joy attended school in a one-room schoolhouse from third thru eighth grades, and her mother Susanne was the teacher. She graduated from De Soto High School as salutatorian and thereafter attended William Jewell College in Liberty. She graduated from William Jewell with a bachelor's degree in education. Joy was married to John Leighton Moad and they had two children, John Carroll Moad and Susan Joy Moad. She later earned a master's degree in education from Leslie College. Joy raised her family, supported her husband in ministry at several churches in Missouri and taught elementary school. Her career spanned over 40 years serving in elementary education in the Kansas City, Independence and Hollister school districts and in Apache Junction, Ariz., schools. Shortly after moving to Arizona, after 40 years of marriage, her husband John went to his heavenly home. Joy later married Edgar Norman Steiner, and they have enjoyed retirement and traveling the world together for the last 11 years. Joy has been an active member of Gilbert Presbyterian Church in Gilbert, Ariz. She sang in the choir, directed the children's choir and served as an elder. Her love of music has always been an important part of her life, singing and playing the piano, organ, autoharp, melodica, ukulele and french horn. Throughout her life as well as during her battle with cancer, Joy's faith and trust in the Lord was beautifully evident in her life. She was a godly, loving woman who used the gifts God gave her to serve Him well. Her name exemplified her spirit, as she brought much joy to those around her. She will be greatly missed but we rejoice that she is made whole again and is living eternally in the presence of the Lord with great JOY!
