Earl L. (Buddy) Meyer, 77, of rural Slater, died Thursday, July 14, 2011, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Slater with William H. Harlow and Rev. Bruce Hess officiating. Pallbearers were Paul Meyer, JT Meyer, Troy Meyer, Ron Allen, Bobby Fisher, Chris Wolfe, Jake Brumit and Chris Leimkuehler. Honorary Pallbearers were Beno Messer, Dick Cook, Delbert Baker, Charlie Gutherie, Jerry Brown and Charles Weiher. Born Feb. 21, 1934, north of Slater, he was the son of the late Lenus and Vernie Kreter Meyer. On Nov. 23, 1963, in Slater, he married Nellie Green, who survives of the home. He was a member, past-superintendent and deacon of New Prospect Baptist Church, north of Slater. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member and past-commander of American Legion Post #78 in Slater. He farmed most of his life in Saline County.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Gary Meyer of Blue Springs, Paul Meyer of Slater, JT Meyer of Greenbrier, Ark., and Troy Meyer of Slater; one daughter, Rita Wolfe of Slater; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Gary Meyer of Wichita, Kan., Daryle Meyer of Omaha, Neb., and Ron Meyer of Palm Coast, Fla.; and two sisters, Shirley Jordan of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Linda Christian of Omaha, Neb.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Penny Meyer and one sister, Joylene Russell.
