Lightning shaves bark from tree
Tuesday evening, July 12, Bud and Mary Kliethermes were in their kitchen and heard a loud 'bang.' Their first instinct while the thunderstorm passed through Marshall was to make sure their home hadn't caught fire.
"(The storm) was ferocious," Bud said. "I've never seen anything like this."
Wednesday morning they discovered lightning had split a mature oak on their property. Not only was it split, but bark was shaved off the length of the branch.
Sleeves of bark were scattered across the yard and the branch was smooth to the touch. No other known damage was found on their property.
