Area FFA members shine at Central District Fair

Blake Summers of Marshall FFA showed the Champion Meat Pen at the Central District FFA Fair held on Monday, July 11 at the Saline County Fairground.
Although flooded roads, meant a little longer travel time for some, FFA members, animals and exhibits representing over 60 schools came to the Saline County Fairground on Monday, July 11 for the annual Central District FFA Fair.

During the day, hundreds of exhibits ranging from vegetables to barbecue grills were judged. FFA members also exhibited hogs, rabbits, poultry, sheep and horses during the day.

Sweet Springs FFA once again took home the Chapter Sweepstakes Award at the Swine Show. They not only had the most exhibitors, but also took home five of the top six awards.

Blayne Vogel of Marshall FFA won the Reserve Champion Meat Pen honors at the Central District FFA show held on Monday, July 11.
Austin Boland showed the Grand Champion Gilt, while Kati Viets showed the Grand Champion Market Hog. Olivia Loges showed the Reserve Grand Champion Market Hog and Lauren Fuehring won Champion Showmanship.

Joseph Limbach of Eldon showed the Reserve Champion Gilt.

The judge was Marshall Swafford of Albany.

In the Rabbit Show, Marshall FFA members took two top awards as freshman Blake Summers had the Champion Meat Pen, while senior Blayne Vogel showed the Reserve Champion Meat Pen.

The Grand Champion Rabbit exhibitor was Josiah Searfoss of Boonville and Reserve Grand Champion exhibitor was Zach Twenter of Pilot Grove.

Judge for the day was Sharon Stephenson of Grand Pass.

Elizabeth Owens of Slater FFA won the Grand Champion Poultry Exhibit at the 2011 Central District FFA Fair.
In the Sheep Show, Tyler Jenkins, a freshman Malta Bend FFA member, showed the Grand Champion Market Lamb, while Jesse Mackeprang of Appleton City FFA showed the Grand Champion Ewe. Jade Jenkins of Marshall FFA showed the Champion Ram.

Jake Mackeprang of Appleton City FFA showed the Reserve Champion Market Lamb and Champion Showmanship was won by Kaitlin Mitchell of Appleton City FFA. The Appleton City FFA chapter won the Chapter Sweepstakes Award.

In the Poultry Show, Elizabeth Owens of Slater FFA had the Grand Champion Poultry Exhibit with a Sumatra bantam chicken. The Reserve Grand Champion Poultry award went to BreAnne Houghtaling of Fort Osage FFA with a Buff Orpington Drake named Garrett.

For at least the 5th year in a row, the Sweet Springs FFA chapter dominated the Central District FFA Fair Swine Show. They again won the Chapter Sweepstakes Award and took five of the top six awards.
The Central District Fair continues on Tuesday, July 12 with the Goat, Beef and Dairy shows.

Yeah Libby (Elizabeth) !! The only mention of Slater FFA I have seen in either article. You go girl!
