On Friday, July 8, the Missouri Department of Transportation issued an alert concerning U.S. Highway 65 between Waverly and Carrollton.
They are "carefully watching an area along U.S. 65 in Carroll County between Waverly and Carrollton. A levee has failed and water is approaching the highway. It is not closed this morning, but eventual closure is expected for an almost 10-mile stretch in the river bottom between the two towns," the alert said.
Alternate routes include:
Missouri Highway 41, a two-lane highway, east of U.S.65; U.S. 63, a four-lane highway further east in Columbia; I-35, an interstate west of US 65; Missouri Highway 13 and U.S. Highway 36.
Those looking for other alternatives should know that Missouri Highway 10 is already closed by water west of Hwy. 65.
