Howard J. Hoffmeyer, 92, of Slater, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Mar-Saline Manor Care Center in Marshall.
Graveside services will be held with military honors at 11 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2011, at Slater City Cemetery with Pastor Matt Arni officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Memorials are suggested to Slater United Methodist Church or Community Cancer Center.
Born Jan. 8, 1919, in Audrain County, he was the son of the late John J. and Johnnie Mae Hall Hoffmeyer. On Nov. 12, 1950, in Slater, he married Mary Evie Peel, who preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 2002. He was a member of Slater United Methodist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post #78 and V.F.W. Post #4367, both of Slater. He worked as a brakeman for Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad until his retirement.
He is survived by one sister, Barbara Fizer of rural Slater, and several nieces, nephews, great-neices and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Howard Lee Hoffmeyer.
