Slater students attend FFA camp

(Kaiser, MO) - Eight members from the Slater FFA Chapter attended the State FFA Leadership Camp from June 13-June 17, 2011.

They were: Kaylee McEachern, Madison Miller, Larissa Foster, Tristen Griffith, Layne Clemons, Shelby Fuemmeler, Hannah Gochenour and Nikki Riddle.

The camp, sponsored by the Missouri FFA Association was held at Camp Rising Sun located within the Lake of the Ozarks State Park. The Institute provided leadership training for over 1200 high school students who are members of FFA across Missouri.

In the photo above, Slater FFA members Madison Miller, Larissa Foster, and Hannah Gochenour smile for the camera during their time at Camp Rising Sun. In all eight members of the Slater FFA chapter attended the camp.

The high school students are trained by State FFA officers as well as a Leadership Director who is a past State FFA Officer. Students learn how to overcome obstacles and develop their communication and personal skills. Larissa Foster and Nikki Riddle both received their State FFA Camp Leadership Medal from their participation in the leadership training and Tristen Griffith was named the All-Around Camper from Slater.

Beyond the leadership development the students had the opportunity to take part in, they as were active with guess speakers from various agricultural groups, a variety of sport tournament, and daily time at the water front. Each student had a great time and would like to thank the Slater FFA alumni for helping sponsor their trip to FFA Camp.

Nationally there are over 500,000 FFA members. Missouri ranks 4th in the nation with over 24,000 FFA members.
