Donald D. Samuels Sr., 71, of Joplin, formerly of Saline and Jackson county, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011, in Joplin.
Memorial graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall with William W. Harlow officiating. Born April 10, 1940, in Saline County, he was the son of the late John Anthony Samuels and Thelma Alberta Burton Samuels. He was raised in Saline County where he was a 1958 graduate of Marshall High School and following graduation he entered the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood and Ft. Sam Houston. On May 24, 1963 he married Cora E. (Beth) Walker who survives. He lived in the Kansas City metro area and eastern Jackson County most of his life where he worked as a meat cutter at various locations for over 30 years. Don attended Heart of God Fellowship, was a member of International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Donald D. (Dale) Samuels Jr. Joplin; one daughter, Melissa Beamgard of Bates City; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Jackson of Sweet Springs; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Samuels and Ronald Samuels .
