Kenneth E. Bonen, 77, of Blackwater, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Visitation will be held at from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2011, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with prayer service starting at 5 p.m.. The mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2011, with Father Bob Duesdieker officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Born April 2, 1934, in Blackwater, he was the son of the late Herman Bonen and Bertha Widel Bonen. On June 7, 1955, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Glasgow, he married Wilma Hanke, who survives of the home. He graduated from SS Peter and Paul High School in 1952. He lived on their farm in Blackwater where he farmed, worked as a union carpenter for many years and later worked in the maintenance department at Boonville Correctional Center until his retirement after eighteen years. He was a member of the National Guard for several years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and the outdoors. He was a devout member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Russell Bonen and his wife, Bridgett, of Armstrong, and Denise Crawley and her husband, David, of St. Louis; his grandchildren, Sam and Elizabeth Crawley and Alex and Gabriel Bonen; his sisters, Dorothy Imhoff and her husband, John, Mary Jane Farendorf and her husband, Ed, all of Blackwater, and Judy Acton and her husband, Jim, of Hallsville.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Gerald and Ronald Bonen.
