Bobby Joe Jewell, 65, of rural Slater, died Sunday, June 5, 2011, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2011, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Saline City, with Pastor Mark Hass officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Saline City. Born March 28, 1946, in Thayer, he was the son of the late Cleveland Jewell and Nora Mary Davis Jewell. He was a 1964 graduate of Thayer High School. On Dec. 30, 1976, he married Lois Johnson who survives of the home. He had lived in rural Slater for many years, previously living in Kansas City and Thayer, and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Saline City and its Voters Assembly. He worked at Hanrahan Asphalt & Paving in Kansas City, then at Cargill Feed in Marshall. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 541. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, playing cards and checkers, farming and getting together with family and friends. He loved playing and listening to music as well as dancing.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Angela Hilderbrand and her husband, Brian, of Hiltons, Va., Bobby Ray Jewell and his wife, Lisa, of Marshall, Renee Jewell Graeber of Raymore, Michael Jewell and his wife, Darlene, of rural Slater, Amy Jewell of Marshall, Shane Jewell of rural Slater and Dylan Jewell of the home; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, David Jewell and his wife, Nancy, of Kansas City; two sisters, Jeannie Robertson and her husband, Bob, of Jacksonville, Texas, and Dorothy Sue Weishaar of St. Louis; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Roy Jewell; two grandchildren; five brothers, Norman, Newman, Gordon, Eldon and his twin brother Wilbur Jewell; and one sister, Ruby Bradley.
