Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to Community Cancer Center. Born Jan. 13, 1923, in Pettis County, she was the daughter of the late William J. Simmons and Nan Spratley Simmons. In 1940, she married James L. Jones who preceded her in death in 1980. She worked at Stamper's and International Shoe Company in Marshall and worked on the family farm at Nelson until her retirement in 1968 when they moved to Marshall. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters, Lena Marie Jones of Platte City and Wanda Lou Elsea and her husband, Edward Jr., of Marshall; grandchildren, Bobbie Joe Yokeley of Springfield, John Wesley Aulgur of Blue Springs, Wanda Marie Laxson of St. Joseph, Connie Lynn Brown of Richmond, Lena Mae Lopez of Platte City, Edward "Trey" Elsea III of Lebanon and Charles Trafton Elsea of Naperville, Ill.; one stepson; two brothers, Leonard Simmons of Sweet Springs and William Simmons of Warrensburg; and many great-grandchildren, including Cori Lynne Laxson of the home; great-great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and extended family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Fred Simmons, Theodore Simmons, Harrison Simmons, Claude Simmons and Willy Simmons; four sisters, Ada Shirley, Louise Shirley, Loretta Rowe and Nellie Randolph; one stepson; one grandson, Steve Yokeley; and one great-great-granddaughter, Kamrie Laxson.
