Cmdr. Thomas A. Maxwell, 86, of Napton, died Monday, May 23, 2011, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, 2011, at Memorial Presbyterian Church in rural Napton, with Rev. Pam Sebastian officiating. There will be no visitation. The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Born July 21, 1924, in Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y., he was the son of the late Thomas Maxwell Sr. and Bertha (Carlson) Maxwell. He obtained a BS in Business Administration at the University of Missouri -- Columbia in 1949. On July 1, 1950, he married Betty Knox Smith, of Napton, who survives of the home. He served with honor in the Pacific Theatre in WWII. After a 30-year career in the Navy, he retired to the Smith Family farm in 1972.
He is survived by his four sons, John Thomas Maxwell of St. Louis, James Penn Maxwell of San Diego, Calif., Andrew Knox Maxwell of Birch Bay, Wash., and William Carlson Maxwell of Columbia; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
