Chopper the shark to patrol Slater pool this summer
Taylor Norris won a family pass to the Slater pool Tuesday, May 17, during the "Name the Shark" contest.
Norris suggested "Chopper" for the pool's shark.
The newly-repaired pool will open Memorial Weekend. While preparing for the season, Slater workers discovered a water leak. They removed some concrete, fixed the leak and repaired a broken electric wire. New concrete is being poured so the pool will be ready for the summer season.
City Administrator Gene Griffith informed the council that Steve McQueen days did not lose money this year.
"It was a break even year with a good crowd," Griffith said. "The venders did well."
In other Slater City Council business, Bluesfest tickets are on sale at Slater City Hall and Vox Box, Mayor Stephen Allegri told the council.
"Bluesfest in the little town with the great sound, the city of fests, is coming up," Allegri said.
A permanent stage for the festival is under construction. The concrete stage was partially funded through grants from the Missouri Arts Council and Marshall Tourism Commission.
Slater sent out another round of weed letter, however, Allegri said, this round was half the size of the first.
"I'm now preparing junk vehicle letters," he said.
