John R. Rowles, 85, of Marshall, formerly of Sedalia, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011, at New Bethlehem Baptist Church south of Sedalia, with Keith Wilson officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Marshall. Memorials may be made to the Saline Animal League in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Sedalia. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbell-lewis.com.

Born Dec. 8, 1925, in Bunceton, he was the son of the late Jesse Rowles and Pauline Tavener Rowles. On June 6, 1964, he married Virginia Lee Tarr who preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 2001. He lived in Marshall the last 20 years, moving from Sedalia, and was a member of Broadway Presbyterian Church in Sedalia. He worked in the construction business most of his life, as well as farming.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Pappert of Marshall; four grandchildren, Christina Pappert, Charlie Pappert, Jennifer Garner and her husband, Spencer, and Kelly Frauenhoffer and her husband, Shannon; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Garner and Kylie Garner; two sisters, Mary Long of Leeton and Frances Tankersley of Fortuna; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace Banks, Doris Motsinger and Margaret Schwartz; and two brothers, Townie Rowles and Jesse Rowles.
