Martha Lea Elliott, 77, of Marshall, died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2011, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall with William W. Harlow officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Martha requested that blue jeans or slacks be worn to visitation and the service, as that was her style. Born Aug. 2, 1933, in Saline County, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Cosgrove Campbell and Jewell Day Campbell. She lived in the Saline County area most of her life where she was a 1951 graduate of Gilliam High School. On Aug. 12, 1963, she married Kenneth Lee Elliott who preceded her in death on May 22, 2002. In her early years she worked at Town and Country Shoe Factory, but the majority of her life was spent volunteering for children's organizations. Since 1991 she has provided child care in her home for numerous children. She attended Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Deborah Creed and her husband, Don, of Mazon, Ill., Denise Ward and her husband, David, of Miami, and Kenna Wittkoff and her husband, Karl, of Kissimmee, Fla.; one son, James Straub and his wife, Debbie, of Sugar Creek; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joe Campbell of St. Joseph, and Dwayne Campbell of Slater; three sisters, Donna Ballowe and Victoria Griffith of Marshall and Linda Bodenhamer of Slater; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, James Campbell and one niece, Rebecca Ballowe Baker.
