Slater, Santa Fe and Sweet Springs send FFA students to state contests

Several area FFA students did well in the Central District contests held on Tuesday, March 29 and Thursday, March 31 in Warrensburg.

Slater FFA had three teams qualify for state competition which will be held on April 14-15 at the Missouri State FFA Convention in Columbia.

The Meats team was second overall, with two students placing in the top ten: Liz Owens, 4th and Jacob Reeter, 7th. Also on the team are Isabella Haushahn and Kaylee McEachern.

The Ag Mechanics team was 10th overall. Team members are: Sheldon Gerlt, Josh Rader, Sidney Thurman and Jon Ward.

The Livestock team took 11th overall. Team members are Chris Borgman, Travis Holt, Saria Leimkuehler and Casey Short.

Sweet Springs FFA will be sending several students to the state competition.

Freshman Heath Snider took first place in Creed Speaking, while the FFA Knowledge team of Colton Bynum, Lizzie Gieseke, Kelly Griffit and Zach Weber tied for second place overall.

The Parliamentary Procedure team of chairman Levi Smith, Mikalah Vogelsmeier, Kaitlyn Fuehring, Adam Ownby, Lauren Fuehring, Becca Schleicher, first alternate Rebecca Tyler and second alternate Colby Dohrman was third place overall.

The Ag Issues team also took third place overall. Team members are: Kyle Evans, Joshua Weber, Derrick Nelson, Alexis Eckhoff and Drake Goode.

The Farm Management team was 5th overall with members: Ashley DelRosario, Colby Dohrman, Abigail Markes and Patrick White.

The Soils team was 7th place with members Shelby Hall, Stephani Minkler, Ashlyn Schlatweiler and Spencer Thomas.

The Ag Mechanics team was 8th place with members Bryan Catron, David Hall, Scott Thomas and Matthew Vogelsmeier.

The Floriculture team was 8th overall with members Breanna Bright, Shelby Hayworth, Taylor Loges and Patricia Robb.

The Poultry team was 11th overall. Members are: Nathan Belden, Eddie Bodine, Daniel Hatch and Alex Minkler.

Santa Fe FFA also had three teams qualify for state competition.

The Horse judging team took fifth place overall and team member Bailey Conner was 8th high individual. Other members are Brooke Barnett, Christia Boehmer and Shea Conner.

The Farm Management team was seventh overall with members Jill Boland, Adam Brandt, Jacob Drake and Sam Peters, who was 10th high individual.

The FFA Knowledge team was ninth overall. Team members are: Jessie Drake, Jessica Evans, Hannah Vogel and Kiley Williams.
