Emmett Robertson Dyer, 94, died Monday, March 21, 2011, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall, with Rev. Kathryn Bell officiating. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church or Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice. Born Aug. 10, 1916, near Fairville, he was the son of the late John Houston Dyer and Ione Smitherman Dyer. On Oct. 30, 1943, he married Reba Elizabeth Montgomery who preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 1981. Most of his life he was a resident of Saline County and he lived for the past few years at Mar-Saline Manor. He farmed for a number of years before he became the Farm Agent for Mobil Oil Company in Marshall. He retired in 1975. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Marshall and served as president of the Saline County Historical Society. He was involved in the organization and activities of the Saline County Fair Association for many years.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Eva Dyer and Jay Beck of Crystal Lake, Ill.; two grandsons, Daniel Beck of Silverdale, Wash., and Micah Dyer of Macomb Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Houston (Pete) Dyer of Sacramento Calif., I.G. Dyer of rural Marshall; and a sister, Virginia Board of Blue Springs.
