Katherine A. St. John, 81, of Millstadt, Ill., formerly of Marshall, died Sunday, March 27, 2011, at her home.
Family and friends will be leaving in procession from Creason Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, March 31, 2011, for graveside services at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis with Monsignor Marvin Volk officiating. Born May 26, 1929, in Hanna, Wyo., she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Evangelianee Vassilakis. On March 2, 1957, she married Donald R. St. John, who survives of the home. She began her professional career as a nurse following services to scrap drives during World War II. She was a longtime resident of Marshall where she served as a school nurse. She was also active in Girl Scouts, swim team and several community organizations.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Caroline Neal, Susan Gumb and her husband, Glenn, both of Overland Park, Kan., Theresa St. John and Michael St. John, both of Millstadt, Ill.; one sister, Peggy Smith and her husband, Edgar, of Laramie, Wyo.; two grandchildren, Anne Marie Neal and Katie Jo Gumb; her caregiver, Cindy Clements; one sister-in-law, Connie Gahagen of Columbus, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Iris Callas, and one brother, Nicolas Varvandakis.
