Dorothy Lorraine Carter, 97, of rural Malta Bend, died Tuesday, March 1, 2011.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Friends may call after 8 a.m. on Friday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice. Born Sept. 3, 1913, in Marshall, she was the daughter of the late George William Reid and Pansy Lou Aker Reid. She was a 1931 graduate of Marshall High School and attended Missouri Valley College. On Sept. 12, 1937, she married Frank William Baughman who preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 1970. Subsequent to the death of Frank, she married Leland F. Carter of Salem, Ark. on Aug. 12, 1979, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1993. Dorothy enjoyed many years as a member of First United Methodist Church in Marshall and the Keystone Sunday school class.
She is survived by three children, Frank William Baughman III and his wife, Katherine, of Coltishall, Norwich U.K., Linda Reid Battelstein and her husband, Barry, of Raleigh, N.C., and Kathy Loraine Harriman and her husband, Jack, of rural Malta Bend; seven grandchildren, Mara Baughman of London, England, Frank Daniel Baughman and his wife, Natalie, of Perth, Australia, Linda Kelly Scherder and her husband, Paul, of rural Bowling Green, Ted Glenn and his wife, Rebecca, of Bowling Green, Jill Lilleman and her husband, Darrin, of rural Malta Bend, Jody Malan and her husband, Steven, of rural Marshall, and Burt Harriman and his wife, Victoria, of Marshall; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Maxine Reid Ohnsted of Madison, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one brother, Van Seymour Reid; and one sister, Janice Reid Lower.
