George Kenneth Wandell, age 87, of Higginsville, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Hoefer Chapel in Higginsville. Interment will be in Lexington Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, at Hoefer Chapel. Born Sunday, April 29, 1923, in Bethany, he was the son of the late Anton Wandell and Cora Smith Wandell. On May 23, 1945, he married Darlene J. Reeve, who survives of the home.
George served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, ranking Seaman. He worked as supervisor of boiler maintenance at Wentworth Military Academy until his retirement April 30, 1992. He moved to Higginsville in 1980 from Lexington. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Lexington. He was recognized by Ike Skelton for his 46-year involvement in Boy Scouts, receiving the highest award of scouting, the Silver Beaver Award; was scout leader for two troops; served as District & Camping chairman, & trained scoutmasters.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Timothy Wandell of Des Moines, Iowa, Robin Wandell of Marshall, Bruce Wandell of Indianola, Iowa, and Scott Wandell of Higginsville; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Dean Wandell.
