Edward L. Morton, 83, of Slater, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Visitation was held Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Cremation followed the visitation, with burial at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association in care of Weiker Funeral Home.
Born Dec. 8, 1927, in Saline County, he was the son of the late Roy and Nannie Fizer Morton. On June 13, 1953, in Marshall, he married Peggy L. Durham who survives of the home. He was a member of the Slater United Methodist Church. He worked for 35 years at Lightfoot Box & Veneer in Slater, and later at Big Bend Retreat.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, David Morton of Armstrong, Rick Morton of Marshall and Larry Morton of Sedalia; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Morton and A.C. Morton, both of Slater; and four sisters, Mildred Bryson, Betty Martin and Mary Bryson, all of Slater, and Lucille Durham of Polo.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Curtis Morton, Kenneth Morton and George Morton.
