Boonville-Farmers Livestock Auction: Cattle Auction Report for 01/25/2011

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

Receipts: 1055 Last Week: 2487 Year Ago: 497

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers under 600 lbs sold steady to
4.00 higher, heavier weights steady to 4.00 lower. Slaughter cows 2.00 to 4.00
higher. Unprecedented feeder cattle prices may be grabbing all the headlines in
the cattle industry right now, but the slaughter cow market has been no slouch.
Lots of take home quality cows are instead hitching a ride to the packer and
slaughter bulls that have any size or dressing percentage to them will dollar
out at what certainly looks like a breeding bull price. In an age where lots of
market observers are concerned about rebuilding the national cow herd, these
slaughter prices make the competition for top quality replacements even more
difficult. Supply and demand moderate. Cows and bulls accounted for 05 percent
of the total offering. The feeder supply consisted of 64 percent steers and
bulls and 36 percent heifers; 43 percent of all the feeder cattle weighed over
600 lbs.

***Cattlemen’s Note: Farmers Livestock will hold a Special Stock Cow Sale on
Saturday, January 29th, expecting 800 head of bred cows, heifers and breeding
