Helen E. Winningham Elsea, 77, of Higginsville, formerly of Saline County, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Born April 1, 1933, in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late Harlen Richard Fletcher and Alice May Hackley Fletcher. On July 23, 1952, she married Alonzo Carl Winningham who preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 1977. On Nov. 4, 1978, she married William Lee Elsea who preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1998. She had lived in Higginsville since 2003, living in Sweet Springs during her marriage to William, previously living in Marshall. She was a nurses' aid at the Marshall State School and Hospital, Lexington Hospital and Higginsville State School. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sweet Springs.
Survivors include her stepchildren, Carl Winningham of Edwards, Mary Winningham Williams of Lawrence, Kan. and Paul Wayne Winningham of Columbia; several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bennie Fletcher of Springfield and Richard Fletcher of Kansas City; one sister, Faye Pickering of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one stepson, Leslie Winningham, one stepdaughter, Carolyn Farier and eight siblings, Margaret Lea, Lilly Littleton, Eva Ray, Harlen David Fletcher, Clement Fletcher, Sue Brant, Lillian Peek and Bernice Decola.
