Wednesday, January 12, 2011

Receipts: 326 Last Week: 1786 Year Ago: 1428

Not enough feeder cattle on hand to establish a firm trend but a lower
undertone was noted. Slaughter cows steady to weak. The first true blast of
severe winter weather hit the area late Monday and continued through the night,
bringing most livestock movement to a near standstill. Supply was very light and
demand light to moderate, with most buyers not overly interested in processing
any newly purchased cattle in cold temperatures and blowing snow. Cows and bulls
accounted for 34 percent of the total offering. The feeder supply consisted of
36 percent steers, 28 percent feeder bulls and 36 percent heifers; 33 percent of
all the feeder cattle weighed over 600 lbs.
