City of Slater loses council member in accident

Tuesday, January 4, 2011

Slater City Council member Ruby Romine died Monday, Jan. 3, reportedly after being involved in a traffic accident.

Her death was a tough blow for her fellow council members to bear.

"She was a great person," said council member Terry Jordan.

Jordan had known Romine his entire life, he said, and grew up with her children.

"She was a good woman and had a good head on her shoulders," Jordan continued.

Romine served the City of Slater for roughly eight years and council member Harry Lightfoot said she was a pleasure to work with.

Marshall police officials said Tuesday, Jan. 4, that officers were called to the scene of the crash, but they said the Missouri State Highway Patrol was handling the investigation and would release a report.

The report had not been released at press time Tuesday.
