William Warren Dyer, United States Navy Commander (Ret.), 96, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, in Gloucester, Va. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, with Rev. Richard Newlon officiating. Interment will be at the Historic Christ Church Burying Ground, Irvington, with military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.

Born Aug. 31, 1914, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Emmett Perdue and Anna Weaver Dyer. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. During World War II, he was a pilot in the South Pacific campaigns. He was a family man at heart.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Edmund Cutler, formerly of Kilmarnock, and a daughter, Dana Leigh Dyer.
He is survived by a son, Roy Cutler of Boise, Idaho; a daughter, Wilma Dyer of Fairfax, Va.; three grandchildren; and a great granddaughter.
