Ruby E. Cook, 94, of Marshall, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital in Columbia.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 27, at the Slater City Cemetery. Rev. David L. Duncan officiated. Pallbearers were Anthony Eddy, Shane Eddy, Alan Thompson and Jason Stockman. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born July 1, 1916, in Saline County, she was the daughter of the late Carl Sallee and Lena Sinnett Sallee Berger. On Dec. 19, 1936, she married Elmer Lynn Akeman, who preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1956. On Jan. 1, 1961, she married Woodrow Cook, who preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 2001.
She is survived by one son, Larry Akeman of Marshall; one daughter, Joyce Kelley and her husband, William, of Conway, Ark.; three grandchildren, Patrick Lynn Kelley and Andrew Martin Kelley, both of Fawnskin, Calif., and Samantha Elizabeth Hathaway of Little Rock, Ark.; two great-grandchildren, Noah Hathaway and Abagail Elizabeth Hathaway, both of Little Rock, Ark.; and a sister, Helen Shepard of Cameron. She was preceded in death by one brother, J.W. Berger, and four sisters, Billie Taylor, Myrtle Mumbrauer, Margie Mitchell and Dolly Eddy.
Mrs. Cook worked at the Blosser Home for the Aged and assisted her husband in the family business, Cook Nursery, in Marshall for many years. She lived in Miami and Marshall most of her life and was a Methodist.
