Phyllis Ferree Cordes, 88, of rural Sweet Springs, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Sweet Springs, with Dr. Reuel M. Gregory and Rev. David Goode officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Sweet Springs. Born Sept. 8, 1922, in Mt. Leonard, she was the daughter of the late William Duncan Briggs and Edna Della Wheeland Briggs. She was a 1940 graduate of Sweet Springs High School. On April 30, 1943, she married Harold B. Cordes who survives of the home. She had lived in rural Sweet Springs since 1977, moving from the Kansas City area, and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Sweet Springs, its Women's Missionary Union and taught Sunday school for over 60 years. She was also a member of the Cretcher Club.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Timothy Kevin Cordes of Lee's Summit; two daughters, Sharon Kay Duffey of Foristell, and Carol Ann Gregory of Kansas City; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Solomon of Richmond and Beverly Wall of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, William H. Cordes, and two sisters, Jean Solomon and Jane Viets.
