Mary Ann Lewellen, 87, of Marshall, formerly of rural Slater, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at Slater United Methodist Church with Rev. Jess Spurgin officiating. Burial will be in Rehoboth Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Pallbearers will be Mike Cassaday, Matt Lewellen, Jack Thompson, Ron Venable, Jerry Venable and Mike Venable. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Meyer, Dick Cook, Wilmer Cook and Wally George. Memorials are suggested to the Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born April 17, 1923, in Saline County, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Hester Lyon Cassaday. On March 18, 1946, in Slater, she married Kenneth C. Lewellen who preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 2004. She was a member of Slater United Methodist Church. She graduated from Missouri Valley College in Marshall with a degree in elementary education and taught in rural schools in Saline County for many years. She lived on a farm north of Slater for many years until moving to Marshall in 2000.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Wayne Lewellen of Marshall and James Earl Lewellen and his wife, Lyn, of Ponca City, Okla.; two grandchildren, Julie Lewellen Thompson her husband, Jack, of Wellington, and Matthew Clint Lewellen of Liberty; two step-grandchildren, Aubre Edwards of Blue Springs and Marcea Collum of Oak Grove; two great-grandchildren, Kayla Thompson and Audrey Thompson of Wellington; one brother, James Robert Cassaday and his wife, Charlene, of Donna, Texas; two sister-in-laws, Ida Lewellen of Slater and Teiko Cassaday of Mt. Clements, Mich.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Harvey Cassaday.
