Boonville-Farmers Livestock Auction: Cattle Auction Report for 12/07/2010

Wednesday, December 8, 2010

Receipts: 1499 Week Ago: 1503 Year Ago: 1160

Compared to last week, feeder steers sold firm to 2.00 higher and feeder
heifers 3.00 to 4.00 higher, with most heifers over 600 lbs 4.00 to 6.00 higher.
Slaughter cows 2.00 to 3.00 higher. Lots and lots of top notch cattle for buyers
to group together this week and trade was very active right to the end of the
day. Cold temperatures have moved into the area to stay, with single digit lows
expected this weekend. As uncomfortable as this can be, cattlemen rest easier
knowing the stress of weaning and/or comingling new purchases is somewhat
easier. In fact, unweaned calves didnít see a lot of discount this week,
particularly if the condition was fairly close to right. Triple digit losses for
CME cattle contracts had virtually no effect on the local trade. Supply moderate
to heavy and demand good to very good. Cows and bulls accounted for 14 percent
of the total offering. The feeder supply consisted of 59 percent steers and
bulls and 41 percent heifers; 42 percent of all the feeder cattle weighed over
600 lbs.
