Boonville-Farmers Livestock Auction: Cattle Auction Report for 11/09/2010

Wednesday, November 10, 2010

Receipts: 1360 Week Ago: 934 Year Ago: 926

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers traded 1.00 to 3.00 lower.
Slaughter cows 2.00 lower. The largest fall run so far for 2010 gave buyers the
opportunity to put together some nice sized strings of cattle, with more
yearlings on offer than any time in recent memory. The yearling trade was met
with good demand and a few extra buyers showed up looking to get in on the
action. The calf trade however was a little softer, with the increased numbers
allowing buyers to be a little choosier when making their purchases. CBOT
soybean futures were sharply higher, closing near highs not seen in two years,
and corn modestly lower after USDA’s most recent production estimates were
released early in the day. Supply and demand moderate. Cows and bulls accounted
for 15 percent of the total offering. The feeder supply consisted of 57 percent
steers and bulls and 43 percent heifers; 50 percent of all the feeder cattle
weighed over 600 lbs.
