Gerald Vernon Sowers, 74, of Brunswick, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, in Brunswick after a 13-month battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Brunswick. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Cremation burial will be in the Elliott Grove Cemetery in Brunswick. Pallbearers are Shaun Reichert and Travis Sowers. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Nutt, Charlie McElroy, Wayne Fletcher, Jack Hickerson, Greg Orschlen, Wayne Sparks, Ron Deis, R.W. Schuchmann, Bill Gann, Dr. Winston Harrison, Joey Seig, Brent Dickerson, Jamie Bowyer and Rick Derenzy. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Elliott Grove Cemetery or St. John's Lutheran Church.
Born on Sept. 22, 1936, in rural Triplett, he was the son of the late Vernon E. Sowers and Frances J. Gross Sowers. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1954. On June 16, 1957, he married Shirley J. Sparks, who survives of the home, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Brunswick. Gerald was an auctioneer, farmer and truck driver. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Brunswick. He lived in the Brunswick area his entire life.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Connie Sowers Reichert and her husband, Eddie, of Marshall, one son, Rick Sowers, of Brunswick; four grandchildren, Shaun Reichert, Shayla Reichert Buie and her husband, Mark and Travis Sowers all of Brunswick, and Tori Sowers of Blue Springs; and two great-grandchildren, Tanner and Taylee Buie, of Brunswick.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his in-laws, John and Eloise Sparks.
